Body Piercing Aftercare
At Skylla Tattoo Studio, we’re dedicated to ensuring your piercing experience is safe and satisfying and accentuates your personal style. However, the care you put into your new piercing doesn’t stop when you leave our studio. Here’s what you should know about piercing clean-up, what to expect during healing, and how to properly maintain your piercing.
Piercing Clean-Up
Post-piercing, your piercer will clean the area thoroughly to eliminate any potential germs or blood. The cleaned area will typically be covered with a sterile dressing to prevent exposure to bacteria and debris. You should keep the dressing on for the duration recommended by your piercer, usually several hours.
Piercing Aftercare
Keeping your piercing clean and avoiding irritation are crucial for a smooth healing process.
- Cleanliness: Clean your piercing with a saline solution or a piercing aftercare spray twice daily. Avoid alcohol or hydrogen peroxide as they can delay healing.
- Don’t Touch: Avoid unnecessary touching of your piercing. Always wash your hands thoroughly if you must touch the area.
- No Swapping: Don’t remove or change your jewelry until the piercing has completely healed.
- Beware of Clothing: Be cautious with your clothing choices. Avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothing around the piercing area.
- Healthy Habits: Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Good nutrition, adequate sleep, and staying hydrated can enhance healing.
- Signs of Infection: Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms like intense pain, dark or odorous discharge, fever, or red streaks coming from the piercing.
Remember, your piercing is a personal expression of your unique style, and taking care of it is paramount. If you have questions or need more information about piercing aftercare, feel free to contact us at Skylla Tattoo Studio. We’re here to help you maintain the beauty of your piercing.
What to Expect
Healing times for piercings vary based on the location of the piercing and your personal healing rate. Here’s a general timeline of what to expect:
- First Few Days: You might experience mild swelling, redness, and sensitivity. Some clear or white discharge is normal.
- First Few Weeks: Swelling should start to decrease. Continue to clean the piercing as directed to prevent infection.
- Following Months: The exterior of your piercing will heal, but remember, the inner tissue may still be healing. Stick with your aftercare routine until the piercing is fully healed.
